چکیده

The kinetics of the initial stage of crystallization of one-component gas hydrates in aqueous solutions are analyzed. The temporal evolution of the volume of hydrate crystallized and the moles of gas consumed are determined. Expressions are derived for the supersaturation dependence of the hydrate crystallite growth rate and the induction time in hydrate crystallization. These expressions are used for revealing how additives in the solution that act as kinetic inhibitors of hydrate crystallization can affect the induction time of the process. The results obtained are applied to crystallization of methane, ethane and cyclopropane hydrates. r 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 64.60.My; 64.60.Qb; 81.10. h

Rapid Gas Hydrate Formation Processes: Will They Work?

Researchers at DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) have been investigating the formation of synthetic gas hydrates, with an emphasis on rapid and continuous hydrate formation techniques. The investigations focused on unconventional methods to reduce dissolution, induction, nucleation and crystallization times associated with natural and synthetic hydrates studies conducted in the...

Driving Force for Nucleation of Multi-Component Gas Hydrate

Based on driving force for crystallization of one-component gas hydrate, in this report an expression for the supersaturation for crystallization of multicomponent gas hydrate is derived. Expressions for the supersaturation are obtained in isothermal and isobaric regimes. The results obtained are applied to the crystallization of hydrates of mixtures of methane plus ethane and can apply to ...

Abnormal incorporation of amino acids into the gas hydrate crystal lattice.

Gas hydrates are crystalline ice-like solid materials enclosing gas molecules inside. The possibility of the presence of gas hydrates with amino acids in the universe is of interest when revealing the potential existence of life as they are evidence of a source of water and organic precursors, respectively. However, little is known about how they can naturally coexist, and their crystallization...

Evaluation of the Effect of Nonionic Surfactants and TBAC on Surface Tension of CO2 Gas Hydrate

Given that most of the gaseous constituents of industrial chimneys are usually carbon dioxide which is one of the most important greenhouse gases. It seems that the hydration process is one of the newest methods for the separation of this gas from gaseous mixtures. In the gas hydrate formation industry, in addition to disadvantages, there are some advantages such as gas separation, transmission...

An empirical technique for prediction of nucleation mechanism and interfacial tension of potassium chloride nanoparticles

Prediction of the nucleation mechanism is one of the most critical factors in the design of a crystallization system. Information about the nucleation mechanism helps to control the size, shape, size distribution, and purity of the produced crystals. When the crystallization method is used for producing nanoparticles, the nucleation mechanism should be predicted. In this study, an empirical cor...
